According to a report released by Facebook on Tuesday, the company used an automated software system to delete about 95% of illegal Posts involving hate speech before users reported it. According to the report, Facebook also deleted 1.5 billion fake accounts and millions of posts in violation of organized hate groups and terrorist policies during this period.
Civil rights groups accused Facebook of failing to implement its policies and organized an advertising boycott last month, during which hundreds of companies cut advertising spending on the social media platform. A recent civil rights audit of Facebook's practices also found that the company did not implement a policy of voter repression against US President Donald Trump. However, Facebook says its hate speech detection system is improving and shares quarterly reports to show how much content it has deleted.
